답변이 늦었군요...

 mysql-3.22.32-pc-linux-gnu-i686.tar.gz

파일은 바이러리 소스파일입니다.
즉 컴파일이 필요는 파일입니다.

때문에 make 시 에러를 냅니다.

압축을 풀고 설치하려는 디렉토리를 만들거나 링크한다음
기초테입를 생성하면 됩니다.

mysql 소스 파일은 mysql-3.22.32.tar.gz 입니다.


만약 소스 파일로 컴파일할 때 컴파일 옵션에서 \ 의미는
문서로 그 설치과정을 보여줄때
한줄에 계속쓰기가 불편할때
이 \ 표시를 사용해서 계속 이어서 입력하라는 의입니다.

일반적으로 \는 유닉스 리눅스에서 한줄에 계속이어서
쓸수없을 경우에 엔터이전에 이 문자를 입력하고 계속이어서
나갑니다.

예:

문서에서 보이는 \ --------------------------------

./configure \
--prefix=/usr/local/mysql \
--with-charset=euc_kr
-------------------------------------------------

실제 커맨더 라인에서 입력할 경우 --------------------

# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-charset=euc_kr

와 같습니다.
